Propane Industry Programs

People working in and around the propane industry are required to have a strong knowledge of the propane regulations and must have special training in certain areas. The following programs are specialty programs to address this need and meet the requirements of the B149.2-10 Propane Storage and Handling Code. The programs were developed by the Canadian Propane Association and are recognized as the standard for the industry by all of the Provincial governments.

Liquid Propane Certificate (LP Endorsement – Module 25) (5 days)

Intended For: The Liquid Propane Certificate is intended for gas fitters who wish to add this endorsement to their license enabling them to work on liquid propane systems.  The functions that the LP certificate allows are outlined in Reg 215/01, Section 26.
Prerequisite: In order to qualify for this program the attendee must already have a G1, G2, GP or IMT license.
Course Content: This program which includes both classroom and hands-on instruction. It reviews the properties of propane, the regulations surrounding liquid propane, propane transfer, propane storage and components such as ISC valves, pumps, ESV’s & bulkheads, compressors, varourizors and meters & dispensers.
Valid For: This license is issued by TSSA and is valid as long as the holder continues to pay the regular license fees

 

Cylinder Visual Inspection & Re-qualification

(PTI 100-04) (1/2 Day) TSSA’s PCI-1 Certificate
Intended For:
Propane compressed gas workers who inspect and requalify CTC/DOT/TC propane cylinders.
Course Content: Properties of propane, requalification equipment, inspection and requalification procedures and record keeping
Prerequisites: none
Valid for: 3 years

 

Inspection of Vapour Pressure Relief Valves in Propane Tanks

(PTI 100-05) (2 hrs)
Intended For:
Propane compressed gas workers who inspect vapour relief valves on propane containers.
Course Content: Properties of propane, inspection equipment & procedures and record keeping
Prerequisites: None but normally taken in conjunction with PTI 100-6
Valid for: 3 years

 

Visual Inspection of Propane Tanks

(PTI 100-06) (2 hrs)
Intended For:
Propane compressed gas workers who inspect propane containers.
Course Content: Properties of propane, inspection procedures and record keeping
Prerequisites: none
Valid for: 3 years

 

TDG Propane Hose Inspection & Testing

(PTI 100-07) (2 hrs)
Intended For:
Individuals who conduct pressure testing on propane hoses used during loading or off-loading of highway tanks
Course Content: Instruction on the specific regulatory requirements affecting hose assembly inspection and testing, the frequency of testing and types of inspections
Prerequisites: None
Valid for: 3 years

 

Visual Inspection of Propane Tanks and Valves

(PTI 100-09) (1/2 day)
Note:
Combination of PTI 100-5 & PTI 100-6.
Intended For: Propane compressed gas workers who inspect propane containers and relief valves.
Course Content: Properties of propane, inspection procedures and record keeping
Prerequisites: none
Valid for: 3 years

 

Bulk Truck Drivers

(PTI 300-01) (1 day) TSSA’s PTO-1 Certificate
Intended For:
Propane bulk truck driver and cargo liner drivers.
Course Content: Physical properties of propane, bulk plant and bulk delivery vehicle equipment, circle check, procedures for loading and unloading, driving propane trucks and filling propane tanks.
Prerequisites: Appropriate class of driver’s license
Valid for: 3 years

 

Rail Car Unloading

(PTI 300-02) (1 day) TSSA’s PPO-1 Certificate
Intended For:
Bulk plant employees who are unloading propane rail cars.
Course Content: Physical properties of propane, bulk plant and rail car equipment, propane testing, procedures for unloading rail cars.
Prerequisites: PTI 100-1, TSSA’s PPO-3 Certificate
Valid For: 3 years

 

Cargo Loading & Securement: Propane Tanks, Cylinders & Related Equipment

(PTI 300-05) (1 day)
Intended For:
Individuals who are transporting propane tanks, cylinders, appliances & other propane related equipment
Course Content: Using the North American Cargo Securement Standard (NSC Standard 10), instruct transporter how to compy with their cargo loading & securement oblications
Prerequisites: None
Valid For: 3 years

 

Bulk Plant Operations (PTI 600-03) (1 day)Propane Industry

Intended For: Individuals who work in propane bulk plants including drivers, service technicians and yard personnel
Course Content: Instruction on the key equipment at the propane bulk plant and how to enhance safety by conducting periodic inspections of the equipment and plant
