Propane Filling / Exchange

 

The propane refueling courses are approximately a half day in length and include both classroom and hands-on training.  Course materials were developed by the Propane Training Institute/Canadian Propane Association and most are available in both English and French (E/F). All courses meet the requirements of the B149.2-10 Propane Storage and Handling Code as well as all Provincial legislation. All students complete a written and hands-on testing and receive a certificate from the Propane Training Institute.

Propane Pump Attendant (PTI 100-01)
TSSA’s PP0-3 certificate

This course teaches service station attendants and other propane industry entry-level positions the basics of propane, about propane equipment and how to fill propane cylinders and vehicles. This covers filling cylinders by weight and by volume as well as vehicle refueling.

Intended For: Propane service station attendants who fill propane powered vehicles and/or cylinders that have a capacity of 46 litres of less (40 pound cylinders and smaller).
Prerequisites: none
Valid For: 3 years

Note: For attendants who fill cylinders that have a capacity greater than 46 litres (larger than 40 pound cylinders), they must also have a Transportation of Dangerous Goods license. This can be obtained using the TDG – Propane Specific Supplement  (see our TDG section)

Propane Pump Attendant TDG Enhanced (PTI 100-11)
TSSA’s PP0-3 certificate

This course teaches service station attendants and other propane industry entry-level positions the basics of propane, about propane equipment and how to fill propane cylinders and vehicles. This covers filling cylinders by weight and by volume as well as vehicle refueling. It also covers the material required for propane fillers to obtain a TDG license which is required for filling cylinders over 46L capacity (40 lb cylinders)

Intended For: Propane service station attendants who fill propane powered vehicles and/or cylinders of any size. A TDG certificate is also issued with this course.

Filling Propane Cylinders (PTI 100-08)
TSSA’s PPO-3 Certificate


Service station attendants are taught propane basics and how to properly purge and fill a propane cylinder by the weight and volume methods. Refueling vehicles is not included in this program.

Intended For: Propane service station attendants who fill propane cylinders that have a capacity of 46 litres of less (40 pound cylinders and smaller).
Course Content: Physical properties of propane, filling equipment, propane cylinders, emergency response and procedures for filling cylinders by weight and by volume. 
Prerequisites: none
Valid for: 3 years

Note: For attendants who fill cylinders that have a capacity greater than 46 litres (larger than 40 pound cylinders), they must also have a Transportation of Dangerous Goods license. This can be obtained using the TDG – Propane Specific Supplement  (see our TDG section)

 

Filling Auto Propane Tanks (PTI 100-02) (3 hrs)

Intended For: Drivers & attendants who refuel auto propane tanks, typically at cardlocks, keylocks and on-site dispensers.
Course Content: Physical properties of propane, filling plant equipment, motor fuel tanks , auto propane filling procedures, emergency procedures.

Filling Propane Carburetion Cylinders by Volume (PTI 400-04) (1/2 day)
TSSA’s PPO-3 Certificate

 Intended For: Industrial workers who fill carburetion cylinders by the volume method. Typically for forklifts, ice machines or other industrial equipment.
Course Content: Physical properties of propane, filling equipment, propane cylinders, cylinder filling and exchange procedures, emergency procedures.

Valid for: 3 years

 

Propane Carburetion Cylinder Exchange (PTI 400-06) (3 hrs)

Intended For: Operators of propane powered off road vehicles such as forklifts, zambonis and scissor lifts who need to exchange the propane cylinder.
Course Content: Physical properties of propane, cylinders, cylinder exchange procedures, emergency procedures.
